Kingston to Jones Falls
Pecan left Kingston's Confederation Basin marina at 8:50 to be at the first lock on the Rideau canal system at 9:30 when they open for operation. Partly cloudy and 53 deg F. We have 47 locks ahead of us over the span of 125 miles until we exit into the Ottawa River at Ottawa.
We had returned the previous day from a road trip back to the USA to take James to school for his senior year--we were now, for the first time in decades, cruising as a couple.
The Rideau was built in no small part due to the war of 1812 and the vulnerabilities an early nation of Canada faced. Great history at the Parks Canada website:
