Sea Trial, Purchase and Storage

After about a year and a half of dabbling with the idea of cruising in a powerboat--did you read the "What's This All About" link on the left side of the page?--we got serious about buying.
We even got a little C-Dory 16 cruiser to 'test' the waters, so to speak. Photo above is our little cruiser anchored in the Indian River off Melbourne. We trailered the C-Dory all over--from Cumberland Island, Georgia to Stuart to Homosassa Springs and loads of places in between.
So, we sold the C-Dory about 3 weeks ago in anticipation of finding a Rosborough RF-246. We considered the bigger sisters of the C-Dory 16--the C-Dory 25 monohull and the 25 foot Tomcat multihull--but opted instead, after viewing several, to go for a Rosborough.
Scouring the internet, specifically: yachtworld.com, ebay.com, craigslist.org, boattraderonline.com, oodle.com, we found a number of RF-246s. Ultimately it was a combination of superb condition and great pricing that had us signing a contract to purchase the well outfitted Pecan up in Traverse City, Michigan on June 30th.

Red track is the drive from Satellite Beach to Traverse City; blue track is the drive back, towing the empty Shorelandr trailer. Details on all that transpired below.

Ready for the sea trial.

Color change denotes bottom abruptly going from 60+ feet to 8 feet.

Out on Traverse Bay, Michigan. July 15, 2009. Winds S 15-20 Knots.

Jay Kraft, of Bay Breeze Yacht Sales, was kind enough to haul Pecan up the bay to Northport Bay Boat Yard; thank goodness he has a Chevy HD2500 Silverado Duramax pickup!

Pecan has just been lifted and the trailer is getting pulled away. Travellift operator says that Pecan shows 8,000 lbs. on strain gauges (although he also says that this reading could be off by 1,000 lbs.)

Stored away until we join us her in August.
